It was my first and last time going to MarineLand.

Several reasons :

-Animals are made to work and are profit centers - so it's basically nothing more than a circus format where all about a question of access - getting the visitors way too close to the animals - and visitors feeding them highly questionable foods.

-Stressing out the animals : Especially when many stupid visitors let their bratty kids scare and chase the hell out of mini-deers. I think animals needs wall to protect them from us humans sometimes.

-Some land animal pens have no shade at all - no trees and not even a blade of grass. Barren as a moonscape and don't tell me this is their normal environment.

-The water tanks are way too small - these water based animals need to roam. Same for the land animals so I don't want to see a fence.

-Speaking of no shade, the grounds are huge and their is an appalling lack of shades/cooling centers amongst the many "attractions" (hello ???)

-Everything is so early 80's - the concrete, the buildings, the rides and the bloody signs - plasticky yellow on "wood". That was the amusement park font/style in 1982 when I visited Disney in Florida.

-After you've been to Disney and other decent mind-blowing park attractions, you realize that Marineland is tourist trap that advertises big but fails to deliver.

So the bottom line is - not everyone loves Marineland - not this guy. These are but a few reasons why the traditional circuses are
thankfully running out of business.

But if your name is John Holer Sr. (owner of Marineland) and this is your "baby" - what do you do in face of the inevitable ?

Some ideas :

-Eco-tourism is huge business - re-arrange the whole place into a modern eco-tourist and nature friendly place.

Unlikely - since I doubt a common circus operator would have the money and much less the daring to go green all the way and not just "repaint the place" or expand into more of the same.

or

More likely and better yet, close up the whole place, move the animals to places where they will be in better conditions. Then call Guy Laliberté from Le Cirque du Soleil and tell him you want to sell the whole land/chabang and retire filthy rich.

Then Guy (who has serious money, backing and exposure power) can turn the place into a permanent Cirque du Soleil location. That place would become a gigantic cash cow just on the sheer insane numbers of tourists coming to Niagara Falls.

Everyone would then win and no one's intelligence would be insulted like mine was that day.
