http://timestop.zenfolio.comIn mid September of 2008, I had discovered too late, an advert for the Doors Open Waterloo Region. I had missed out on the event by a few days only.
The purpose of the Doors Open Waterloo Region program was to allow the general public admittance to number of numerous and various types of locations - free of charge - during one day in the year. Some tours were guided and some not - but in all locations, photography was thankfully permitted.
I figured that it was likely to happen again in mid-Sept of 2009, I patiently waited for a whole year for the chance to create an itinerary where I would visit and photograph various places of worship only. Splendid interior photographs of stained glass windows were imagined while Mozart and Bach organ music was the soundtrack in my mind during that whole year.
In Early September 2009, two important things came together to make this wish come true:
1. I was able to get a listing of this year's participating sites and get organized to visit 11 sites in one day in Kitchener, Cambridge, Ayr, New Dundee and Waterloo
and
2. I got hold of a Nikon D700 digital camera and a Nikkor f 1.4 50 mm G lens - an unbeatable available light photography combo kit. I thought I knew this was a "proper" piece of kit but I was pleasantly surprised to shoot at apertures ranging from f 6.3 to f 16 (mostly) and ISO ranges from 200 to 3200 and a shutter speed floor of 1/80 of sec.
All shots are hand held - no mono or tripods.
This photo project was an eye opener in many respects and I now invite you to read the story of this photo project and bear witness to man's arts and skills depicting the greatest glory - God

Love this collection! I too did the Doors Open in 2009 but lack of time didn't permit visiting the churches. Your photo's have inspired me to include places of worship next year .... and you can be sure I'll have my camera with me!
