I was walking along the edge of the Grand River when I came down to a down sloping bend made of gravel.
I don't know why but I stopped dead in my tracks. My photographer's instincts told me that there was something interesting somewhere but that I wasn't seeing it at the moment.
I paused, stood very quietly and started to slowly scan the surroundings and then about 2 minutes later I saw the strangest thing.
This Canada goose had made it's nest within the hollowed out bark of a tree that had been split right down the middle to form a mid-air "L" shape 10 feet from the ground as a result of wind storm a few weeks earlier.
It made no noise whatsoever and I thought it was a helluva great fake decoy but it's head had to move a bit for it's right eye to follow me as I tested this theory.
It was alive !
