On April 6th 2012 (Good Friday), a concert featuring Juno award winner Suzie Vinnick was held at the Lancaster Smokehouse in Kitchener, Ontario.

Since this was my first time visiting the Smokehouse, I arrived very early in order to scope out the place, get my distances right in relation to the stage to get the tight face shots I needed.

From a photographer's perspective, this was going to be a tough shoot: The place was full, a fair amount of people traffic passing in front of the stage, poor lighting, busy backgrounds with odds and ends poking about that could be very distracting in my shots. So I picked my spot accordingly and got my Nikon D700 + 70-200 f2.8 VR II lens ready.

Once done, I tried their wings before Suzie arrived and they were AWESOME. Chef Chris Corrigan and his wife were superb hosts and their hospitality was second to none. I'll be going back soon.

Suzie and James (her beau of many years) arrived and we caught up on each other's lives since my last shoot of her in 2010 at the Rockway Gardens community centre in Kitchener. They both also adored their meals.

Her 2.5 hours show done in 2 sets blew the crowds away right up to the end. Her blues guitar playing and her voice is extraordinary but to me it's her facial expressions that conveys her moods while going through her many songs that I wanted to capture.

She certainly obliged and here are the results. I hope you enjoy my work.
