Danish Place Restaurant - Expensive but worth it.

Situated in Crieff (east of Cambridge) in Ontario and nestled in an camping/retirement enclave that caters exclusively to retired Danish ex-pats. This was a hard gem to find - the result of a search to learn more about the Scandinavian cultures and it's specialty foods.

It's deep in the country side – horses, fields of cedar (the smell is fanstastic) and tulips of different colours strewn the way to the Danish Place. Birds and nature playing around outside the large bay window of a very rustic dining area. Louis Armstrong playing in the background as I’m taking in the Klarsuppe. A light soup consisting of mini meatballs, dumplings and vegetables in a savoury chicken broth.

The Frikadeller (three Danish meatballs the size of a palm) with a savoury an smooth parsley sauce served with mash potatoes and Brussels sprouts was delicious and filling. No space for desserts and that place is apparently known all the way to Toronto for it’s sweets. Next time ! But what a great way to end a hard week at work to be there for a Friday supper.

I went back on Sunday early morning with my camera to take photos of Danish folk art, spent quiet moments walking in the many paths they have – around many ponds with benches around them. They have a cemetery with a tiny chapel. Quiet, peaceful and contemplative – yeah that’s my thing. Nice people – great vibe – nice community that come together to do group chores on a regular basis.

They have Constitution Day on June 1 and a witch burning night on June 21 with a huge bonfire. As a stopper of time, I hope to be there to capture the moments with my camera.
