On August 25th 2011, the opening night of the 2011 Waterloo Buskers Carnival took place in downtown Waterloo.

Organizers were relieved because the night before an F1 tornado had hit barely 10 miles south of Cambridge. People in the Kitchener-Waterloo area were still talking about the big storm the day after.

But the crowds still gathered on in the blocked off sections of King Street. Local dignitaries and sponsors ranging from the world of politics, media and business then declared the festivities officially opened for all to see and participate.

A lot of work goes into the planning and logistics of this important annual show. Buskers come as from as far as Australia to present their show. Admission is free but a money donation is the custom if you've enjoyed the show. I sure did and I did my part. Don't forget - this is how they make their living.

As a photographer, it was a tough challenge to deal with the constant dark cloudy weather persisting on opening day. It robbed a lot of light needed to freeze the action sometimes required without using a big obvious flash. No tripod nor flash were used (except for one photo). I think I did rather well considering the situation.

Oddly enough, I saw no pro shooters on opening night compared to last year.
